On 13 Jan 2008, we arrived Hobart at noon. We have rent a car (Nissan Xtrail) from Budget Car Rental. The car should be ready on 11:00 but we could only get our car at 12:05! This delayed our first tour visit to the Barilla Bay Oyster Farm. Luckily, we can caught up with the tour at last.
The farm tour was quite interesting but it last only an hour. We've tasted some freshly opened oysters with salty sea water! The oysters were so salty! After the demonstration on how to distinguish different oysters, we proceeded to the restaurant to taste the oyster beer & freshly opened oysters. The oysters this time were so delicious without the salty taste cos the oysters have been cleaned under the running water. Afterward, the tour guide told us that if we want to taste more, we could go upstairs and have seated to enjoy the oyster menu. We haven't have our lunch yet and we were so happy and went upstairs at once. However, what a damn again, the waitress told us that the restaurant was full on the day and no more oysters could be provide even for take-away!! Oh, shit! We were so disappointed and why didn't they told us when we confirmed the tour?? So, if you're planning to visit the farm and decided to have meals there, do book in advance!!
After we've settle down, we went out and would like to buy somethings to fill up the fridge. However, almost all the shops were closed as it was Sunday!! Damn! The people in Hobart didn't need to work on Sundays even in supermarket! We've than wandering around and finally we've found there was a small supermarket in which the owner was a Chinese!! We just grabbed somethings which could stuffed our stomachs! However, that was not enough. We then try to drive around to see if there was another supermarket. On the way, we've went to the pier area and we've a short walk there. The weather was not very good and seems there would be a big rain. When we came to the booth at the Elizabeth Street Pier, we were attracted by the smell of fishes & chips! We were too hungry and could wait to order a seafood combo to share. It costed AUD$20. As we expected, the rain was coming and we could only stay inside our 4WD to enjoy this meal!! So funny just like camping! Oh, the seafoods were so fresh and delicious!
After this quick meal, we started to search for supermarket again. Luckily, we found that there's a Coles near Sandy Bay Road finally. We then could shop happily and we've bought lots of food!
At that night, I've baked a whole chicken as our dinner. The chicken was so crispy!
